Communication

One of the most critical roles an elected official has is to communicate effectively with the public and with the employees who are the backbone of the agency. It is far too often our elected officials fail to fully communicate to those we serve.  This failure almost always leads to a breakdown in trust and will likely lead to the circulation of false information.

The role of the coroner’s office is to complete an independent and thorough investigation into the cause and manner of death. The findings of these investigations should be available to the public and should be communicated to the public, when requested, while maintaining compassion for the deceased love ones who are going through a tragic event. I also believe the families should be kept in the information circle and should never be the last to know significant information.

If elected your next coroner, I will ensure there is a public information officer (PIO) on-call 24 hours a day to provide timely information to the public via the media, social media platforms and person-to-person communication. I will be a resource to the community when critical events occur and will help deliver clear, factual public service announcements to the residents of DuPage County.

Through the coroner’s office investigations, data will be collected and used to rapidly identify trends involving opioid overdoses, suicides and public health crisis. The early identification of a trend can be the initiating factor to launch a effort to reduce the incidence of death.

It is my promise to ensure the coroner’s office is a cooperative agency that will share its independent investigative findings, data and identified trends with key stakeholders to include the general public in accordance with state statue.
